Rootbound

This piece started as something whimsical imagine a forest fairy, something like Mimir from God of War, nestled in a magical grove. That was the vibe I had in mind. But then I showed it to my girlfriend, and her brilliant brain took it somewhere completely unexpected.
She saw it not as fantasy, but as a crime scene. A girl was not just embedded in a tree she was bound to it, lit only by a flashlight. That eerie, investigative twist flipped the entire mood and I loved it. What began as a gentle forest spirit became something darker.
